The Value of Our Mode of Serving the Community

Community-Based Care

After decades of service to our diverse urban community, our organization continues to be committed to actively promoting the well-being of families and individuals who are at risk for, or have, behavioral health problems.  To do so effectively requires a high degree of collaboration with other local groups in order to ensure access to needed services, continuity of care among the services, and a supportive community environment. We are widely respected for having developed these qualities of effective community-based care.  And we work to sustain this care in the face of state and national policies that encourage mergers into large organizations with programs that cover many geographic areas but may not be well-rooted in any community.

Care for the Underserved

We provide high quality care to low-income people and others who have been socially marginalized due to mental health and substance abuse problems. We continue to maintain high-quality care to these populations despite the fact that public funds which used to support such community-based services have been cut back severely since 1999.

Team-Based Care

To support people who face multiple challenges, our staff members work closely as a team, so that more than one service provider is familiar with an individual or family, and can be readily available for consultation, support, and coordination of care.

Strength-Based Care

We provide a continuum of services that identify and engage the strengths of each person and each family as a central means of promoting healthy development and treating mental health and substance abuse problems. We continue to maintain an affirmative, hope-sustaining focus in the face of public policies that praise such an orientation, but also undermine it by encouraging management practices that fragment and obstruct care.

Shared Commitment

Our staff has a shared commitment to designing and implementing the mechanics of organizational efficiency so they are consistent with the well-being of the people affected by them.
